(If we don’t have enough registrations\, we may have to cancel the trip\, so register early and invite your friends!) Whether you’re a history buff\, design enthusiast\, or simply curious about the city’s revival\, this trip offers a rich and inspiring look at the Motor City’s enduring spirit. \nMichigan Central Station:\nMarvel at the dramatic silhouette of this grand Beaux‑Arts landmark\, once the busiest train station in the Midwest and now a symbol of Detroit’s remarkable resurgence. Recently restored\, Michigan Central Station stands as a powerful blend of past and future\, offering a glimpse into the city’s next chapter. \nThe Guardian Building:\nStep into the heart of downtown and witness the bold colors and geometric brilliance of the Guardian Building—Detroit’s “Cathedral of Finance.” Its Art Deco design\, Native American–inspired patterns\, and warm terracotta façade make it one of the most striking skyscrapers in the country. \nThe Fisher Building:\nOften called Detroit’s “largest art object\,” the Fisher Building dazzles with its limestone exterior\, ornate detailing\, and iconic green-tiled roof. Inside\, its golden arcade and hand‑painted ceilings create an atmosphere of elegance and craftsmanship that has captivated visitors for nearly a century. \nSchedule:\nMeet at the RACC at 7:30 am\, where you will enjoy delicious baked goods\, coffee or tea before we take off at 8:00 am sharp.\nWe’ll visit Michigan Central first\, where you’ll explore the exhibits and shops. Then it’s off to the Detroit Shipping Company\, where you’ll enjoy a wide variety of world cuisine\, lunch is on your own. From there it’s off to the Guardian and the Fisher buildings with a step on guide\, who will share historical information as we roll through the streets and visit the landmarks. The trip is $85 and includes a treat from Bon Bon Bon\, a small chocolate shop. \nWe’ll enjoy some complimentary snacks on the return home with an approx. return at 7:30 pm \nMust be 16 or older to attend this trip. This tour will require active walking and climbing stairs. Registration and payment due by April 10. You may pay online or register and pay in person at the RACC during open hours prior to April 10.

DESCRIPTION:Explore Art and Culture in Detroit! \n\nJoin the Richland Area Community Center as we adventure to the exquisitely opulent estate of Edsel and Eleanor Ford in Grosse Pointe and the spectacular Detroit Institute of Arts! \nDetroit\, is a vibrant city brimming with culture\, history\, and innovation. Known as the Motor City\, it offers visitors a unique blend of iconic architecture\, world-class museums\, and an expansive food scene. \nMeet at the RACC at 7:00 am\, where you will enjoy delicious baked goods\, fresh fruit\, coffee or tea before we take off at 7:45 am sharp! The trip is $150 and includes a delicious lunch at the Ford Estate. \nFor our first stop\, our group will experience the historic family home of Edsel Ford\, the only son of Henry Ford\, and his wife\, Eleanor. The estate is located on 87 sprawling acres with beautiful grounds and gardens on the shore of Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Shores\, Michigan\, north of Detroit. We will split into groups to tour the main residence\, a 30\,000 sq. ft mansion at this National Historic Landmark location. There is no elevator\, so those with mobility issues may not be able to take the stairs to the second floor. \nLunch will be provided after our tour\, and will include a hot buffet of: salad\, rolls\, buttery silk potatoes\, seasonal vegetable\, chicken parmesan with a lemon sauce\, and dessert. Please indicate below if you have any dietary restrictions or need a vegetarian option. \nAfter lunch\, we will depart to the Detroit Institute of Arts. The DIA is one of the country’s premier art museums\, know \nn for its extensive collection that spans over 5\,000 years of human creativity. Its striking architecture\, including a grand neoclassical exterior and elegant interior spaces\, enhances the overall experience. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a casual visitor\, you will be able to walk through at your own pace and witness an inspiring journey through history\, culture\, and creativity at the DIA. \nAfter a couple hours of exploring the DIA\, we will venture to Cannelle\, a popular and beloved French bakery. Cannelle has earned a reputation for offering some of the best baked goods in the region. The bakery specializes in a range of traditional French pastries\, including croissants\, tarts\, éclairs\, and macarons\, all made with high-quality ingredients and expert craftsmanship. Take time to purchase the goodies of your liking and after\, we will depart back to the Richland Area Community Center\, to arrive by 8:30 PM. \nMust be 16 or older to attend this trip.
